As a nurse, Trudy knows that having an abortion is a deeply personal decision and one that is best made between women and their doctors. A politician has no place in criminalizing and limiting the healthcare that doctors can provide. Frankly, girls today shouldn’t have to grow up with fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers.
But sadly here in Missouri, this is the reality thanks to extremist politicians. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the biggest setback to women’s rights in 50 years, Missouri’s Attorney General Eric Schmitt immediately enacted Missouri’s extremist, out-of-touch abortion ban. Missouri’s law is so extreme that it bans abortion from conception onward with no exceptions for rape or incest, even for child victims. Eric Schmitt is enforcing a law so cruel that it would force little girls who have been raped to stay pregnant and give birth.
If Missouri sends Eric Schmitt to the U.S. Senate, we know he will further erode the rights of women on a national level.
Trudy is a nurse, mom, grandmother, and the only pro-choice candidate in the race. She knows that abortion bans hurt women, families, and entire communities. She knows that threatening doctors with prosecution is not the answer to a nationwide healthcare worker shortage. She’s seen firsthand that patients must have personal autonomy over their bodies to make the choices they believe are best.
In the Senate, Trudy will work every day to restore and protect the right to safe and legal abortion everywhere. Trudy will vote to codify Roe v. Wade into federal law and will support efforts to end the filibuster to pass legislation to federally protect the right to an abortion.
All across Missouri, women, families, and girls are scared for their futures. Trudy is an advocate and fighter and will stand up to extremist politicians determined to take our rights away.
